I found a really interesting post on Recruitment Futurology group
Job search engine Simply Hired has integrated with Facebook to help job seekers discover new, more relevant positions via their social network.
Some very interesting comments lifted below !!!

Great conversation going on here, however I think as always Matt you are absolutely bang on with your metrics, and I think the "killer blow" that is not going to allow Facebook to become a MySpace, bebo etc is the point you raise Gareth on the vast ongoing development that is happening at a drastic pace, and more importantly the mammoth partnerships they are forming daily with large global organisations.. Right now, privacy issues aside, Facebook is certainly the girl (or boy) everyone fancies at school - or secretly fancy! Hearing Christian Hernandez from Facebook give a presentation recently - those guys are very much on the ball and have aspirations to reach 1 Billion active users. They claim to "just getting started....."
Steve you raise some very valid points, and none of us can be sure of the future, however to draw a parallel, I dont hear too many people asking if Google will be around in a few years....why?
And no, I personally am not a very active facebook user, however 450 million people (and rising daily) are!!!

Well said - Facebook can allow both highly targeted campaigns, and potential for fantastic viral spreading. However this brand interaction must be carried through to the website/service that you are driving them to. You can then even use metrics from both the number and type of people clicking though, and the interaction on your own site to improve your targeting within Facebook. Great non-recruitment example - Lynx had a campaign featuring a video on Facebook which extended their TV campaign. They used targeted paid advertising (young men in the UK) and viral video (both funny and use of hot women) to great effect to drive people to their own site. On their own site, user was presented with whole series of further videos to watch, and ability to vote on their favourite - use of metrics of voting and which video was watched most allowed them to choose which video to then change the video they used within their Facebook campaign. Full cycle...

If Facebook were a country it would be the 3rd largest in the world.
It has gone truely global.
It is engrained in the DNA of a whole generation
It is still growing.
It has plenty of cash
It is more used than Google
It is excellent for rifle shot campagins
It is evolving
It's not going anywhere
It has bigger fish to fry than recruitment
It will be used by use - the industry because it has an audience.

Been thinking about this a bit more. The absolute key to the forthcoming spread of "social recruiting" is how it will supercharge referral recruitment. While LinkedIn is seen as the professional channel and Facebook the personal channel at the moment, I bet Facebook has far more conversations about jobs in it. On a daily basis people are using Facebook to ask their friends and friends of friends whether they know of any good roles or who they might know at companies they are considering working for. During this recession Facebook has been the main place where I've first found out that people in my network have been made redundant and are looking for work. Referral recruitment has always worked via the kind of "weak ties" that Facebook now enables people to have many many more of.
So I think it is safe to say Facebook will have a big role to play in recruitment in the future whether we like it or not!

On a daily basis I keep hearing that LinkedIn is the Professional Channel / Facebook personal channel - LinkedIn the office....Facebook the pub etc......
Focusing on the LinkedIn vs Facebook comparison, I think a very important point here is understanding the demographic of these two sites. LinkedIn's whole existence is down to individuals who have built a professional network in organisations they have actually worked in over the years - Dont quote me on this, as I may have slightly out of date information, however this has resulted in around 65% of LinkedIn users being 35 years or older. LinkedIn can also be a slightly unappealing environment for an individual that has no connections in the workplace, a graduate, etc - what value can it add if you don't have an existing network? I know it can, but it is not glaringly obvious. Facebook on the other hand is mopping up almost the entire Generation Y online population - not only our current, however our soon to be future workforce, and they use it DAILY. They are born and bred into social media, and Facebook is usually the entry point. In my opinion (and for the time being anyway) recruiting on LinkedIn and Facebook on the whole is basically reaching out to a slightly different user / candidate.
I love LinkedIn. I think it is a fantastic product, and the knowledge I have gained through my own personal conversations with them, I am convinced they have a fantastic strategy and are constantly developing and improving their already phenomional product.
The point I am making here is simple. Every social network has value if you TRULY understand its demographics, and you also have a focused remit and strategy to tap into its user base effectively using engagement and not broadcasting methods. Whether it be Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, Twitter, Specialist blogs etc..... they can all bolster the hunt for quality talent and it has been proven time and time again.

And of course my take on it !
The biggest part of all of this is that it is an external site that has identified the need to integrate with Facebook - Facebook themselves like LinkedIn dont really understand the value of recruitment to future income pots - My take is that Facebook hasnt really sussed how to target its audience as you either need to spend a fortune for them to integrate a campaign or do all the admin yourself - so the potential wastage/cost is high or the time is high on admin.
LinkedIn has the same problems - basically buy a service or a licence and then do it yourself . If somebody can take all the admin , and eliminate all the "lost" / "wastage" then they will crack the Social Media Recruiting future.
I like LinkedIn and find Facebook is social, I agree that the use of friends is important for verification or new news - again in both cases I dont see them making this easy for jobseekers or recruiters - they havent quite got classified yet - but they will.
Keith and Matt I like what you say as always , mines a pint !!!
PS We are having the discussion on LinkedIn - My niece has just told me she has bought a handbag on Facebook
